Deacon Klaus Fricke
Funeral Mass for Deacon Klaus Fricke, 78, who died Wednesday Dec. 11, was celebrated Friday, Dec. 20 at Worthington St. Michael the Archangel Church. Burial was at Resurrection Cemetery, Lewis Center.
He was born in Germany to Rolf and Maria Therese (Schwarz) Fricke on Sept. 24, 1946.
He graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1964, attended Franklin University and received his Master’s degree from Capital University.
He was ordained a deacon by Bishop James Griffin in February 2001 at Columbus St. Joseph Cathedral and served St. Michael Church for his entire diaconal career.
He worked for the Ohio Bell Telephone Co. and was an adjunct faculty member at Franklin University and a member of the Knights of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert. Survivors include his wife, Sharon; sons, Christopher and Michael (Brandi); a sister, Alma (Rob) Shipley and two granddaughters.
Donald R. Henne
Funeral Mass for Donald R. Henne, 81, who died Wednesday, Dec. 4, was celebrated Tuesday, Dec. 10 at Our Mother of Sorrows Chapel at St. Joseph Cemetery, Columbus, followed by burial at the cemetery.
He was born on Oct. 21, 1943 to Paul and Irene Henne, was a 1961 graduate of Columbus St. Charles Preparatory School and received bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ohio State University.
He was a teacher at St. Charles for more than 25 years and served as the school’s athletic director from 1976 to 1995, when the school’s athletic budget grew from $50,000 to $260,000, the number of sports offered increased from eight to 12 and several athletic facilities were built.
He also served at various times as baseball and golf coach and an assistant football and basketball coach at St. Charles. He became a teacher and athletic director at Licking Heights High School in 2002.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sue; and daughter, Sheryl Sidle. Survivors include his second wife, Marcia; son, Todd (Lisa); seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
