A final Mass was celebrated on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Bernard St. Corning Church, which is closing as part of the diocese’s Real Presence Real Future initiative. Bishop Earl Fernandes was the principal celebrant at the Mass. The parish was founded in 1882 and served parishioners in Perry County, known as Ohio’s cradle of Catholicism, for more than 140 years. The current church was dedicated on Feb. 28, 1916. The parish included a high school that operated from 1907 to 1948 and an elementary school that in 1888 and closed in 1970 that was staffed by the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth for 85 years.
